Who are we and what makes us 'experts'?
Hi! I'm Yvonne and I'm the main author on InternalMedicineForPetParents.com. I'll also have guest authors for blog posts, but I promise each author will be a veterinary professional that is an expert in their topic.
So, who the heck am I? I'm a Registered Veterinary Technician in California and have been practicing since 2003. I started my career at a large 12 doctor general practice (GP) in the San Francisco Bay Area. The practice was open seven days a week and saw a wide variety of animals and diseases. I learned tons on the job. After working in GP for almost seven years, I decided I wanted to challenge myself and became a teacher at a veterinary technology program. The first few months teaching I was stunned by how much I had forgotten since leaving school and passing my boards. Fortunately it all came back and while teaching I sat for the National Exam and passed without any problems. (Phew! I really didn't want to face my students with a failed exam.) While teaching, I worked closely with the program director and set a goal to become one myself. About three years into teaching I was given the opportunity to lead a program myself. Unfortunately after a year, I realized my passion was not in managing, but the hands on work done in the veterinary hospitals. I stepped down to a part time instructor and followed my heart. I landed my dream job at a specialty hospital and have been working in Small Animal Internal Medicine since 2012. I still love it. In 2016 I obtained my specialty credentials in Small Animal Internal Medicine, so I now have my VTS (SAIM). My passion is helping intricate cases while in they are in the hospital, and transitioning these pets back into their homes. Why InternalMedicineForPetParents.com?
Working closely with pet parents I realized there really weren't great places to get legitimate information to help navigate the new world owners found themselves in after their pets were diagnosed with complex internal medicine diseases. So, the idea for this website was born.
My goal is to have a place to find veterinary approved information, great resources for information on diseases, and a place for pet parents to feel connected. I hope you find information to help you navigate the bumpy road you found yourself on with your fur baby. Here's to happy, healthier pets living the life we dream of for them.
